I thought I was having a good experience with them, building a rapport as a returning customer every weekend, only to feel really backstabbed when I noticed a random cleaning fee on my credit card statement this week for a car I rented a few weeks ago. The car had some sand on the floor from getting in and out of the car, but I did NOT smoke or put animals in the car, not did I spill any liquids or scratch the car. The car was not filthy and it probably took a few minutes to clean. I have rented cars for 15 years and NEVER been charged that fee, I think the common interpretation of "return the car the way it was" means not damaged or filthy. MOST rental places automatically run a vacuum over the interior and drive it through a wash between customers...A little dirt or sand from the passengers is not an unreasonable thing. But the real reason I feel really bad about this because I actually thought this was a nice family business and they were really nice to my face. I picked up a car this weekend and I actually went in to apologize to them about the sand in the floor of the last car, because my boyfriend had just noticed the little sign asking people to vacuum the cars, which I had not seen. Again, I have never been told by a rental company to vacuum the floor...that cleaning fee should be charged for legit dirtiness...Even worse, the car I rented this weekend WAS dirty from the last person, there was food all in between the seats...but did I complain? No! It wasn't a big deal to me. And I went and made the effort to clean that up before I returned it since my bf had noticed the sign...Perhaps I should charge them 80 dollars for giving me a dirty car?
At no time when I was interacting with these people did they talk to me about the cleaning fee and why they felt it necessary. They just smiled so nicely and act like they were not screwing me out of 80 dollars behind my back...I had several more rentals planned with this location plus a storage unit, but I will take my business elsewhere if they really feel the need to nickel and dime over a five minute vacuum issue, ESPECIALLY in such a crappy fake way.
I had a great experience with Avis when I rented a car over the weekend. The staff was really nice and polite, but I loved that they let me pick which car to drive in the class I had selected. There were three options of cars I could choose from on the lot so they have a nice, large selection for you! They also let me store my car on site after signing a liability waiver.
I think my only 'negative' comment was that they didn't have a dropbox to put your keys in, but I think that's only common at airports. Since I am an Industrial Engineer, I would recommend they provide a temporary access code to the property gate for those that have early drop-off times so car renters don't have to wait for the gate to open, and to provide instructions so that renters can lock the keys in the car for drop-offs or provide a dropbox. Other than that, this place is great!
