The store's products are great. Wide selection, decent prices, and lots of mid- to high-end bikes to choose from. The woman who I presume is one of the owners is less than pleasant, however. I've gone to Cooper's twice, both times with a very specific product in mind, and both times the owner was very condescending and tried to convince me what I wanted was wrong, and proceeded to talk to me as if I didn't know a thing about bikes. I'm by no means the most knowledgeable when it comes to bikes and bike tools/parts/etc., but on my previous (and what will be my final) visit, she spent ten minutes repeating that a certain tool wouldn't be compatible with my bike (it was) and finally gave up when she said she could "see in my eyes that I'm not getting it." I asked if she would take my money and she went into the back while I waited for another employee to ring me up. Perhaps I've just caught her on bad days, but add that to the somewhat haphazardly organized layout and the cats that roam the shop and I don't foresee myself returning in the future.
I really wish I could do a negative rating. I went there to get my bottom bracket fixed on my BMX bike. They claimed to have replaced the bottom bracket which didn't fix the problem and recommended i buy a $150 part for my bike and they charged me $26 for the "repair". So I decided to get a second opinion from District Bikes. They said it was the bottom bracket and fixed it for me within a day and only charged me $15. The bottom bracket did not have anything done to it, the bearings were shot and the bracket was snapped so Coopers definitely did not do anything to it. They also denied me any sort of compensation and tried to tell me i didn't know what the hell I was talking about when I brought it up with them. Other than that, the place is disgusting with the smell of cat urine and feces.
I recommend going to District bikes instead. They have outstanding service, knowledgeable employees, and good prices.
They have always taken care of my bike well! Good people to deal with.
Not the most modern of stores, and they do have lots of cats, but if you want a solid bike, and people who know "bikes" and can actually fix your bike, this is where you want to go. Have purchased many bikes for many kids and a host parts for this and that, over 25+ years. Every single dollar I have spent at Coopers has been well spent.
I have been going to Cooper’s since the 80’s when I was a child. Copper’s has never steered me wrong. I have been dealing with Mary the owner for years. Yes she is very dry when talking to her but I also know that that’s just the way she is. I also know that if she is telling me I am getting the wrong bike. I am getting the wrong bike. The whole Copper’s family are cyclist, from bicycle to motor cycle. There years of bike knowledge is amazing. I do 90% of my own bike work but when I do have to go to Cooper’s normally for disc brake problems they always fix it right the first time I have never had to go back. Yes, the place smells like cats. Always has. I think that’s what's great about the old local shop. Not a lot of corporate bull selling you whatever they can to make a buck. There are other stores in town. Myself I have never visited them. I have no need to Cooper’s has always done me right.
